In general I'd say plants are difficult for most novices to handle. You should either consult a skilled botanist, or at the very least pick up a "Plants for Dummies" book. There are a lot of different plant types to identify. Most plants are unique in their characteristics, and there's no easy answer here.

Fast growing trees, they are a great help to the environment. Poor growing conditions do not affect them much and they are drought resistant. They like lots of sun and water and grow quite well close to water. The roots spread so do not plant close to spaces where roots can be a problem.

This tree has an aggressive root system and can achieve quite a spread, don't plant close to the house. Tolerant of very poor growing conditions, but susceptible to canker and tent caterpillars. Lightly prune after deep cold has passed. Likes a lot of water, but is also drought resistant, enjoys full sun to partial shade.
