This all depends on what arm angles feel comfortable for the pitcher. Normally pithcers use a straight over the top to a slight three quarters angle. But some of the major leaguers drop down into a sidearm arm slot or even submarine. It depends on how much stress your arm can take, and what works best for you.

Proper overhand slot for pitching is straight up and over. You should practice pitching with a basket or a bucket in front of the opposite leg you throw with. This excercise forces you to raise your leg much higher and then gives you a much faster and more accurate pitch.

The proper arm slot for overhand pitching is really none. No proper arm slot. They're are so many styles for overhand pitching. You have everything from your 100 mph fast ball pitcher. Then there is rick sowell who threw a blooper pitch that went like 40 feet in the air.
