A mean is an average of the amount of numbers you are working with. When finding a mean, one should add up all the individual numbers together and then simply divide by the number of different numbers. For example, the numbers 2,3,6,and 5 have a mean of 4. You add 2+3+6+5=16/4=4.

To test you got the correct mean, multiply the number of items by the mean (average). The answer should equal the sum of the numbers that were originally used to calculate the mean.
