Remember the acronym PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, Adding and Subtracting) Solve everything inside of the Parenthesis first, then any numbers with exponents. Then, in the order that they appear (from left to right) solve multiplication and division. Finally, add or subtract (again, from left to right)

One of the easiest ways is to first identify like terms such as 2x and 56x. They are like terms because the variables are x. 5x^2 and 5x^3 are not like terms, because x is being raised to different powers. You then must combine the terms through operations. Remember to check if the number/variable is negative.
