Question by  worker3340 (33)

What is the permutation and combinations for finding lottery numbers?

+7

Answer by  VB (361)

Since order doesn't matter, this is a combination. If you want to know how many possible number combos there are, you calculate Combination(how many numbers available, how many winning numbers).

+6

If the order doesn't matter, it's a combination. Else, it's a permutation. If you have a pool of 90 numbers to choose from, and you have to guess 6 correct numbers (no repetitions and order doesn't matter) the combination is "90 choose 6" = 622. 614. 630 Formula = 90! /(90-6)! 6!
