What is the oldest a dog can be safely bred for her first litter?

In the kennels I have worked at, the oldest they would breed bitches was 6 years if it was to be her first litter.

Mostly, female dogs shouldn't be bred after they are 5-6 years old. It can be dangerous for her and for the puppies. Also, by that time it is strongly recommended that you neuter your dog, thus preventing many possible serious problems that occur when dogs aren't neutered in time.
