It is six years. The company issuing the card may say in the agreement that the laws of the home state of the issuer determine the statute of limitations.

The limitations are quoted in the NY Civil practice and laws. Basically it states, that within 20 years the debt has to be repaid if the items are on money or property. If it's a mortgage your dealing with or annulment of letter repayment, you have to pay it within 10 years.

The statue of limitations on credit card debt for New York is six years. That's how long a company has to sue you for non-payment of credit card debt. The companies may use other ways of attempting to collect the debt after six years, but they can't use the courts.
