Some types of algae have been utilized by the health food industry; however, not all types of algae are suitable for this purpose. Most algae which is specifically grown for human consumption is produced under very controlled conditions, and manufacturers regularly conduct product sample testing. Certain types of algae do indeed contain many nutrients considered important for a healthy diet.

Algae I believe is very high in important nutrients, and amino acids. It also helps blood cells regenerate. It is suposed to help increase certain brain funtions as well. I wouldnt imagine it would taste very good either but I would assume it could be added to other foods to help make the flavor tolerable.

Some algae has a strong, fishy taste, others have almost no taste. Nutritionally, it is high in iron and calcium and trace minerals like iodine. It is easy to find in Asian food markets, and easily mixed into soups and stirfry without noticing strong tastes.
