It depends on what is causing it. If the sore is a hot spot it can be cleaned and treated with topical antibiotics. An infection may require a vet visit.

Wash the sore with antibacterial soap and water. You may need to clip the hair around the sore off to be able to see it and clean it better. Keep the sore as clean as possible.

The treatment is similar to that on a human. You will need to clean the sore, keep the hair out of it, apply something to help in healing and fighting bacteria, an then wrap in in a clean bandage. Allow the dog to stay inside and keep the wound dry.
