This depends on if you are a beginner or a seasoned faster. Experienced fasters can fast for up to 30 days. Beginners should try shorter, more frequent fasts to see how their bodies react. There are many side effects of fasting, including headaches, dizziness, nausea, decreased energy, so be prepared to stop if the side effects become too extreme.

A person's first water fast should not exceed three days; however, once you are experienced and know how your body reacts, you can go up to nine days without food.

If you go about 5 to 8 days without any liquids, you are flirting with death. Even after 2 to 3 days can cause severe maybe irreparable damage to the body.

The length of your fast depends on your health and experience. For your first fast, you should not try to exceed three days, but once you are more advanced and know how fasting will affect your body, you can do a water fast that lasts up to two weeks or more.

I am currently on day 21 of a fast and only in the last two days have I felt really weak and sometimes dizzy when I exert myself. I plan on fasting for 7 more days and then I am finished!
