In 1944, Boston Braves pitcher Red Barrett pitched a complete game against the Cincinnati Reds with only 58 pitches. He allowed two hits, and the Braves won 2-0 in Cincinnati. The game lasted one hour and 15 minutes, and is the shortest nine-inning night game ever played. Barrett threw 9 fewer pitches than the pitcher with the second fewest pitches.

Ok if a pitcher throwes nothing but strikes the whole game, He will throw 27 pitches. You figure that out because if a pitcher throws 3 strikes the batter is out. So if he throwes nothing but strikes for outs the whole 9 innings. That would mean he only threw 27 pitches the whole game.

If the visiting team wins, there would be fifty-four pitches. If the home team wins, there would be fifty-one pitches.

The least amount of pitches in a 9 inning major league baseball game is 54 (27 by each pitcher). 3 Pitches x 9 innings = 27 pitches per pitcher.
