A funeral is a ritual that often has cultural and religious significance. The law does not govern these rites. There are laws with regard to the reporting of a death, how remains are handled, cremation, burials, exhumations, etc. but not for the actual conduct of a funeral rite.

Funeral ceremonies are governed by custom, not law. The handling of the deceased, burial, interment, cremation--those things are controlled by state law. Any funeral director in Washington would likely be happy to answer your specific questions.

Washington states the body may be perserved with dry ice to keep it refrigerated. At a funeral home the body can be removed from refrigeration for up to 24 hours.
