Body control module is a computer in an automobile which checks, regulates and controls the electronic devices throughout the car. Body control module controls air-conditioning ,interior lighting, door locks and so forth. The module performs many of the functions of a normal computer, storing data, using RAM and sending or receiving radio waves.

I believe you are referring to the "ECM" or "ECU". This is what controls basically every function of the vehicle, from the air to fuel ratio to many of the electronice.

A body control module is a computer component in a vehicle that regulates and operates electronic devices in that vehicle. So it is indeed a vehicle's hub for functioning. In the beginning, a different electronic device was used to monitor each function (like air conditioning, door locks etc) but a body control module manages all the functions.
