The ritual of the peace pipe is embedded in Native American culture and is associated with the Mother Earth. It was used as part of a bigger ceremony of thanks giving and spiritual communion between people and so in its broadest sense it does have a sense of bringing harmony and mutual respect to those who smoke it.
