What is the history of the computer language Basic?

THe history of basic computer language goes back to the early days before personal computers were common place. Basic language is the easiest programming language for people to program in, I am sure it is used by some but most people purchase software that is easy to use rather than program themselves.

Basic is one of the first languages to be used with computers. Now, there is very little to no professional work done with Basic.

BASIC was designed in 1964. The language became widespread on microcomputers in the late 1970-1980s. BASIC remains popular in a handful of modified dialects such as Microsoft Visual Basic.
