There is no real beginning about southern clothing, however it started around the early 20's since many people where realized how hot the southern area is. This is when lighter patterns are created and lighter colors where develop to repel the hot sunny days of the south. From there the clothing has beloved from there.

Southern clothing in the American South? Think thick and hardy clothing for men, clothing that was necessary to protect one's body while working at hard labor on farms and plantations. Women wore hoop skirts with tight corsets underneath. The skirts touched the ground to protect female modesty. Slaves wore threadbare and hand me down clothing.
