Question by  LanDroid (75)

What is the history of carbonated soda?

I'm curious what made somebody think that the fizziness would be a good addition.

We can trace carbonated soda back to the natural mineral water which contained carbon dioxide that causes the bubbles. We ended mixing syrup with mineral water to make sode.

I think soda carbonation began as a medical cure to hide herbs in order to make them go down easier. Then, later fountain shops turned into a place to socialize over a soda.

I'm certain that it was not a case of just deciding that "fizziness would be a good addition." For centuries, man has been drinking naturally carbonated water from springs. Eventually pharmacists (and quacks) added herbs for flavoring and to "cure" various conditions, and people enjoyed those fizzy, flavored concoctions.
