What is the fire glow effect for fireworks?

I need to understand the glow effect for fireworks.

The colors in fireworks come from metal powders burning. Magnesium is a common one for white, nickel, copper, and aluminum are other commonly used metals. Each metal or powder burns with it's own unique color.

The glow effect for most fireworks, is the exposure of phosphrous to the oxygen in the air. Phosphrous and oxygen react in a combustion, producing heat & light.
