The etiquette for a wedding shower depends on the individual who is throwing the shower. There is really no traditional etiquette, the individual who is having the wedding should be a good determination of etiquette.

When bringing a gift to a wedding shower, one should always put a ribbon on the present. When the bride-to-be opens a gift, everyone will be watching to see if she will break the ribbon or not. If the ribbon breaks, this signifies a child for the future couple.

At traditional wedding showers, everyone has a ribbon or bow on their gift, and the bridal party uses these ribbons to make a funny hat that the bride has to wear for the whole shower. Put a ribbon/bow on your gift in case they plan on doing this.

As far as wrapping the gift goes I do not believe it would be bad ettiquette if you left off a ribbon on the package.
