The overuse of steroids can cause many healthy problems in cats. One of the major effects on the heart is the increased risk of heart disease. Steroids can also cause cardiovascular disease.

It can cause a long list of issues in cats. It can lead to vomiting, lethargy, seizures, insomnia, osteoporosis, diabetes, panting, pancreatitis, dull coat, etc. Most major negative side effects would come with the overuse of steroids, but there are several minor side effects that can occur with one use. They need to be used in moderation if at all.

Cats are usually very resistant to negative effects from corticosteroid use. However, some studies indicate that steroids may temporarily induce congestive heart failure in some cats.

I would think that steroids would have similar effects in both cats and humans. In humans, steroids cause elevated blood pressure among other symptoms; I think this would be the same for cats.

There has not been any reported damage to a cats heart while on this type of medication. You will probably experience more problems "giving the medication" to kitty, so try concealing it in pill pockets. Cats do not get diabetes from steroids and this drug can be used long term on cats as there is usually no reactions, or allergies.
