The ShihTzu is a tiny bit smaller than the Lhasa so they have also a longer nose and almond shaped eyes that would differentiate them. The ShihTzu looks more stronger built for his or her size differing from the Lhasa. Lhasa have longer coats than the Shihtzu. Shihtzu are more compact.

The Lhaso Apso is usually larger, has a different head shape and lower set ears. The eyes are usually almond shape in the Lhasa Apso compared to the round shape of a Shih Tzu.

There are differences between the fell of their coat, the length of their snout, and the shape of their head. Shih Tzus have a short snout and are smaller dogs. Although, it is very hard to tell them apart as puppies.
