What is the difference between supplement and complement?

Answer by  Gabriel (2146)

Generally, to supplement means to make up for a deficiency in something, where complement means to add to something that may be fine by itself. So I supplement my income with a second job. I complement my education with job experience.

Supplement is something that helps make up for something, like a dietarty supplement. Complement is something that adds to something else to make it better.

Complements make something complete because they move together. Supplements add to complements, thus adding to something which could be complete on its own. Eg. Stew is a complement of rice whereas the taking of surplus rice is a supplement. Call +233542173091 for more.
