There is a major difference between rotation and revolution of the earth. Rotation of the earth involves the earth rotating on its Axis which occurs every 24 hours and what is considered a Day. Revolution is where the earth revolves around the sun and this time takes 365 and 1/4 days to accomplish and what is called a year.

During one day on Earth, our planet completes one rotation all the way around on its axis (situated somewhere on Earth, we are moving towards the east). At the same time, we are revolving around the Sun. One complete revolution around the Sun is completed in 365 days. Rotation and revolution are what our days and years measure.
