Core Duo is Intel's first product line of dual-core processors, while Core 2 Duo is the second generation of dual-core processors succeeding Core Duo. Core 2 Duo has a 64-bit processor compared to Core Duo's 32-bit. Core 2 Duo also has substantially more on-board Level 2 memory cache. As such, Core 2 Duo can perform more tasks at faster speeds.

The Intel Core Duo was a 32-bit CPU designed exclusively for laptops. The Core 2 Duo is the successor to the aforementioned processor, except that it was a 64-bit CPU aimed at both the mobile and desktop markets. Both of these CPU's have since been replaced by Intel's Core i3, core i5, and core i7 CPU's.

The biggest difference is that the Core 2 is newer, and faster. Core 2 will outperform the Core across multiple tasks, from graphics rendering, to every day processing. Other than that, they really are the same chip, and they will even fit the same sockets on motherboards (which is nice if you decide to upgrade from a core to core2).

Core 2 has: support for 64-bit operating systems; slightly higher performance per MHz (5 - 15% depending on application); support for additional SSE instruction sets that improve performance in newer software; some Core 2 CPUs have hardware virtualization support; newer Core 2 CPUs use less power due to a smaller manufacturing process;

The Core2 series is a newer version of intels core-series. The structure will yet be smaller, the clock speeds go higher. For details read up on it.

in core 2 duo,there will be 2 dual core processing unit,but in the case of core duo,only one core processor is there.then the processor speed of core duo is less than that of core 2 duo.for high performance we use core 2 duo processors..both are developed by intel corporation.

As far as ı know the main difference between them is Core 2 duo has 2 processors in it. That's it.
