What is the difference between earbuds and headphones?

I am getting a new iPod and do not know which would be better for listening to music while exercising.

Ear buds go directly into the ear while headphones are on a band and go outside of the ear. Either or will work because they now make ear buds that stay in your ears better.

Earbuds go inside the ear, headphones stay on the outside. Earbuds are more suited to use when exercising as they are inserted into the ear, they won't move about, whereas headphones will jolt about.

Earbuds are a great technological advancement for active people. Especially while exercising, earbuds tend to allow more inflow of outside noise, which is great for crowded environments like the gym or pedaling your bike to work. Not only are you able to hear your surroundings, but the lightweight design helps for storage and carrying purposes.

Earbuds fit inside the ear while headphones are worn over the ears. Earbuds are better to wear while exercising because they are very light weight.

Headphones are a pair of small loudspeakers, or less commonly a single speaker, with a way of holding them close to a user's ears and a means of connecting them to a signal source such as an audio amplifier, radio or CD player. They are also known as earphones, headsets or, colloquially cans. Earbuds are good to listen to computer music
