What is the difference between an oven and a range?

I am remodeling my kitchen.

A range is made up of both an oven and a cook-top (ie hotplates), whereas an oven doesn't have any hotplates. A range is usually free standing. Ovens can be built into a wall, or installed under-bench.

An oven is the bottom part that you use to bake or broil things. A range is the stove top part and you put pots and pans on top of.

the oven has a door in frout and you can bake in it and a range is the cooking top that you put your pots on top. alot of people use these bout it you buy oven you only have to one thing
