A tow "hitch" is one piece of the package. A tow "package" includes various upgrades: transmission cooler, heavy-duty radiator and battery, enhanced suspension and braking system, etc. WARNING: If you install only a tow "hitch" you may put your vehicle's warranty at risk. Do your homework first.

A tow package refers to all the components needed for towing, is generally provided by the dealer and tends to be pricier; a hitch is an after market addition and generally costs less. Tow packages generally integrate more successfully with the auto's computer system, making the extra cost worthwile.

A tow package comes pre-installed on the vehicle and a hitch is something you purchase later and install yourself.

A Hitch only the physical hitch itself. Tow packages offered for truck from the manufactures usually come with a lot more. The do include a hitch but also have things like different read end gears, strong suspension, trailer light connectors, and trailer brake controllers. However each manufacture's package can vary from the others.
