A parameter is something that is set before a system begins (e.g. the number of people in a study). A statistic is something that is experimentally or mathematically derived from a system (e.g. 80% of women found the TV ad offensive).

A parameter is a descriptive fact about a population and a statistic is a descriptive fact regarding a sample. Since it is sometimes impossible to measure 100% of a population, often parameters are estimated by using a sample statistic.

A parameter is a value measured by the data analysis. A statistic is the data result for that set of data parameters, usually including statistical combination of parameters and time or experiment try.
