A chimichanga is basically a burrito that has been deep fried. So it comes out toasty instead of soft. A chalupa is basically a taco with a fluffier shell.

A chalupa is a tostada platter in Mexican cuisine. Chalupa is made by pressing dough. Chalupa can be frozen but will need more seasoning when thawed. A chimichanga is a burrito prepared with a choice of meat, vegetables, and spices. It can be deep-fried to a golden perfection and served with lettuce and cheese

A chalupa is an entire fried corn tortilla with toppings, like a taco would have. A chimichanga is a burrito made with a flour tortilla that has been fried with the ingredients inside.
