You can buy postage stamps right now for $0.28 to mail a postcard of maximum size 4"X6" within the United States. A larger postcard - up to 6"X11.5" - costs $0.44, the same as a letter. To mail a postcard internationally, you need an international rate stamp, which currently costs $0.98.

The price of a first class letter stamp is currently 44 cents for up letters weighing up to one ounce. This means that a book of stamps, which contains 20 stamps, will cost $8.80. The next price level, for letters up to two ounces, is 61 cents for a stamp. Postcard stamps currently cost 28 cents.

Unfortunately, postage stamps now cost $.44 ever since the latest price hike in the spring of 2009. If you have only old stamps, such as the $.42 ones, usually postage stamp machines or post offices will offer a small cheap stamp costing the difference. If you choose not to purchase this, the recipient must pay the difference!
