What is the connection between The Grapes of Wrath and the Bible?

John Steinbeck's novel published 1939 The Grapes of Wrath's title is derived from The Bible, specifically a passage from Relevations. There are several Biblical allusions within the novel as well.

The Joads were going from Oklahoma to California. Moses led the Jews from Egypt to the promised land,Israel. California is the promised land to the Joads. They were escaping from the drought and poverty. The Jews were escaping from the Egyptians. The Joads and the Jews were looking for their promised land.

The title is an indirect reference to Revelation 14:19-20 which uses the metaphor of a winepress and references the wrath of God.
