Your mac book will have either an s video or an hdmi port on it. The s video is cheeper but the hdmi will give you much better picture quality. All you have to do for either is plug one end into the tv and the other into the laptop.

The cheapest way is to use a mini-dvi to VGA connector, then use a VGA extender cable to connect to the TV. You can also use mini-dvi to DVI adapter.

MacBook connects to a mini-DVI to DVI cable which connects to a DVI to HDMI cable. Then this is connected to the HDMI port on the TV. You'll want connect an audio cable to the TV or stereo so you can hear the sound. You can use an optical fiber cable with the "barn door" connector for surround sound.

The sound part should be easy either attack the sound port to the tv with a standard 3. 5mm headphone jack or one that adapts it to rca jacks if that's what the tv has. The use a cable that converts the video dvi out of the mac to an hdmi or svideo.

The best way to hook audio from the Mac to a TV would be to buy a wire that will connect the Mac to the TV. It's best to find a wire on a site such as Amazon where wires can be bought for cheap.
