Some of the most common causes of heavy periods include uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and anemia. Women with IUDs and on some kinds of hormonal birth control may also experience heavy periods as a side effect. If you are having heavy periods and it is new or bothersome to you, you should make an appointment to talk with a doctor.

There can be a number of reasons. A hormone imbalance is the most likely cause. Being obese or fibroids can also make your periods heavy.

Usually it is due to a cyst or some sort of benign problem. If this isnt the issue than it could possibly be a tumor or cancerous problem. If this is something that you dont usually deal with then that is when you need to worry. If you have dealt with this your whole life than it is fine.

Many women experience this and it is fairly common. The name for this is: menorrhagia If it gets in the way of normal activities or you have very bad cramping because of it, you should see your doctor for treatment. Chances are the doctor can give you something to lessen this and give you something for treatment of the cramps.
