Rainbows are rays of sunlight getting refracted through falling raindrops. The rays get refracted/bent at different angels in different raindrops, forming rings according to their wavelength (you only see an arc, but a rainbow is an entire circle; colors of light have different wavelengths). An inverted double rainbow occurs when light rays can get refracted twice before reaching you.
