The calorie count can range from 300-600 calories per cup. It depends on if you use heavy cream, real butter, bacon, flour, and full fat chicken broth. Leave out the bacon and flour. Use milk, olive oil and reduced fat broth instead and you'll have a lower calorie count.

It depends on what is contained in the soup. If it's made with butter and cream, it has a higher fat content that if it's made with skim milk. Get a list of the ingredients and look up each one for total calories, then divide by the number of servings.

If you are trying to watch what you are eating, then Potato and Leek Soup is ideal as it is low in fat, very nutritious and relatively low in calories. Based upon the recipes for a typical basic potato and leek soup (leaving out any fatty optional ingredients such as cream), the calorie count is a heart warming 310 calories.

There is a huge difference in calorie content depending on who is making the soup. For 12 ounces, the calories may range from 300 to over 700. Read your labels!
