The best value would be a 4 ethernet port router by a company like Belkin, D-Link, Netgear, or Linksys. Check ads for sales, they all offer similar capabilities.
Linksys and D-link are both value brands. You get a lot of functionality for a low price. If you don't have any needs out of the normal, usually just pick the router that support 802. 11g, you can get the cheapest.
By far Linksys is the brand to go with, they typically last several months longer than other brands (that is the reason that Cisco purchased Linksys). I install routers as a second job, in the past 5 years, I have installed close to 1500 routers, by far the easiest and most reliable is a Linksys.
Router which cost around $30-$60 is the best value for home routers. High price routers are best suited for Office use with very large area. Most routers that cost $30-60 dollars can already support big areas and houses with 2-5 rooms.
If you need wireless access, go for wireless routers. Else, use a Ethernet switch - 1000Mpbs, which are cheaper, more reliable, data transfers between computers are much much faster.
