Different smells can require different remedies, if your dog has been sprayed by a skunk a bath in tomato juice may help ease the odor. Another remedy is to bathe the dog with several drug store bought douche kits, or a good old fashioned bath.

Dogs can smell because they need a bath, due to their diet or because of a medical condition. First bathe your dog with a shampoo made for dogs. If the smell returns quickly, try a different brand of food. If the smell persists, visit your dogs vets to look for an underlying medial cause of the odor.

A bath! No seriously, some breeds of dog need regular bathing to keep their coats healthy. Odor can also be a sign of skin parasites.

I would suggest giving your dog a real good bath. Scrub hard. A bath is what it needs, with soaps and shampoos and things. Then a good hosing. If that doesn't work, take it to the vet.
