What is the best engineering field to go into?

the only person that can answer that question is you. Do not listen to anyone that tries to "push" you to their fields. Most schools have first year of general engineering, which will introduce various fields to you. I like management/business, therefore I am System Science and Industrial Engineering.

The best engineering to be in is mechanical. It gives you much more flexibility in career choices. Mechanical engineering is more science based courses in college and more math than a general engineer. Mechanical engineers are found to be working for large corporations that produce products as small as a compact disk to items as large as an automobile.

Electrical and/or Computer Engineering still commands high pay. Additionally, degrees in these engineering fields opens a lot of doors if you want to go into patent law.

The best field is going to be a highly personal decision. You can look at what each field does. Mechanical Engineers design mechanical things, Electrical deal with things like designing computer chips, Chemical work with materials on the small scale, Civil work with materials on the Macro Scale and structures. There are also specialties like Aerospace, Biomedical, Ocean...

Engineering is a cyclical business. Sometimes students prepare for a field that is booming when they start their education and dead by the time they finish it. Because of this it would behoove you to choose the are that interests you most. However, it seems likely that computer engineering will be a strong area for the forseeable future.

Chemical engineering. There is a lack of chemical engineers and they are highly employable from pharmaceutical companies to higher learning institutions.
