Loose stools are often caused by illness and disease, so you may need to see the veterinarian. Feed your dog a simple, consistent diet of dry food with no canned food or table scraps, both of which can cause digestive upset. Avoid changes in his diet as this too will cause his stool to be affected.

You can try any premium dog food brand, and 1 tsp. Psyllium plant fiber sprinkled on its food if stools don't firm up with the good food. You should, though see a vet if there is diarrhea or the dog has other symptoms than loose (not diarrhea) stools. Good luck!

If your dog has an occasional bout of "the runs," try giving him or her some plain, steamed, white rice with a little boiled chicken or cottage cheese added to it. For a regular diet, feed dog food without corn and with a minimum (or no) amount of grain. We use "Taste of the Wild. "

Any good quality dry dog food should work to firm up a dogs stool. Avoid dog foods that show a high level of animal byproduct in its list of ingredients. Feed your dog at the same time everyday, and avoid any sudden changes in diet, after it has become used to a certain brand of dog food.

Purina is a particularly good dog food. However, most dog foods are fine for stools. If your dog is having loose stools it may be a bacteria infection. You should have the vet analyze a stool sample to be sure.

It would all depend on your dog's system. I would just try different brands of dog food that your dog will eat and see which ones gives him regular stool. What might do that for your dog might give opposite results for mine.

The best thing to do is give your dog dry food rather than wet, canned versions of dog foods to do this.
