If you are concerned about injuring your ankle, then you need some cardio that presents very little possibility for twisting it. Elliptical machines seem your best bet. Rowing machines can also work. If you don't have access to a machine, then do swift walking (but not running for now).

You will probably want to look for a low-impact type of exercise. This eases the amount of stress put on your joints, including your ankles. Swimming is an excellent low-impact exercise that works all of your muscles.

If you know how to swim, then swimming would be a great workout for you. You can also do the rowing machine, usually most gyms have at least one to two of these. The rowing machine would be the best because you are working out your whole body without putting pressure on your feet.
