There will be a wide range of typing speeds for kids. The biggest factors will be the age of the child as well as their experience level with typing. A child that has been using a computer for several years will undoubtebly type faster (30 wpm) than a child that has only been typing for a shorter time period (10wpm).

Typing teachers will tell you that the average "hunt-and-peck" typing speed for a kid is probably somewhat less than about 30 words per minute.

A child that has just started typing but has a good grasp of spelling and grammar will probably be able to reach around 30 words per minute just through regular use and a bit of practice. A child that has problems with spelling and is unfamiliar with keyboard layouts would probably be closer to 10 words a minute.

Before taking a typing test most 8-10 year olds can type 10-15 words per minute or less with accuracy. With training on a good tutor (Mavis Beacon, for example), they can easily double that.

It's true, but with Mavis Beacon make it triple than that. I am 10 years old and I can keep up 60 words per minute.  add a comment

Typing speed of a kid depends upon typing skill. It will vary from one kid to others. A beginner kid can type 10-20 words per minute normally. An expert kid can type 30-40 words per minute. So we can say that the average typing speed of a kid is 20-30 words per minute.

Kids usually average over 25 words per minute. This is a little over half as fast as their adult counterparts. The difference? Years of practice!
