What is the age to get a fishing license in Illinois?

If my son is too young, does that mean he can't fish?

Kids under the age of 16, disabled persons and visually impaired individuals are not required to have a fishing license in the state of Illinois. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has a link that allows you to download the 2010 Illinois Fish Information. You can also purchase fishing licenses online.

I would check with your local ordinances. Call the mayor's office and speak to someone directly regarding your son's age. Find out if he would be able to go if he was with a licensed adult at all times. See if this law applies to private or public property;laws vary.

According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the age to get a fishing license is 16. If your son is younger than this he can fish without a license.
