It is a very large seabird. One of the largest birds that can still fly. It was used as a messenger bird in ancient times, and was likely the object of symbols and expressions for this reason.

The albatross is a seabird with a very wide wing span. In order to fly, it runs on a cliff to pick up speed and jumps off the edge, then catches the wind in order to soar. It does not flap it's wings like other smaller song birds. At times, they scavenge fish for food.
