What is some of the symbolism in the Wizard of Oz?

I need help with my literature, and symbolism in Wizard of oz.

The symbolism I see in the Wizard of Oz is that Dorthy (people) go down the road of life (the yellow brick road) without ever seeking out answers. We need to question more (the man behind the curtain) not just follow the path.

In the original book, Dorothy wore silver slippers, not ruby slippers. She was able to return home to her family by using the silver slippers, relegating the gold road as a fantasy land. It was a symbol for why the silver standard was better than the gold standard at the time of publication of the book.
