Wild ducks pair up early in the mating process. The two build a nest; the ducklings head to nearby water the same day as hatched. The male is devoted until then and then he wanders off. The mother minds the ducklings, but not the degree Canada geese tend theirs. A lot of ducklings are snatched by hawks.

Ducks nest in area that are near water. They prefer places like Ponds, Lakes and Wetlands that have tall weeds or Cattails so they can hide their ducklings from predators that mean hurt them. They usually come out during the morning or early in the day to play in the water and then go back into the weeds to hide.
