The child should find out about the pet's habitat, feeding times, sleeping times, if the pet likes to be held, and all of the pet's habits. It is also important for a child to know how the pet and it's new home needs to be cleaned.

Kids can learn math by taking care of a pet. Have the kids weigh and measure a growing kitten or puppy every week and make up math problems.
