A Soldier's Home, a short story by Hemingway, is about a young soldier who has returned from World War I only to find that he, himself, is lost. Krebs goes home, but "home" has moved on without him and he no longer feels that he fits in anywhere. This disturbing story still has meaning as soldiers return from war today.
