This happens when cigarette smoke "paralyzes" cilia(hair-like projections) in the trachea. Coughing is the only way to dislodge the phlegm that builds up. This condition can worsen with time.

It is a cough that a person gets after a certain period of time due to smoking cigarettes. It is a deep cough caused by numerous toxic contents of cigarettes that are gradually collected in the lungs and eventually building enough mass to make a smoker start coughing. Dark discharge due to nicotine may eventually be the result of it.

A smoker's cough is a chronic cough that is caused by severe lung problems, such as emphasema. Smokers are especially prone to lung issues due to the dangers inherent in smoking, so they are very prone to have these sorts of thick, productive coughs. Thus, they are known as "smoker's coughs. "

Smoker's cough is caused by irritants in the bronchial system (i. e. in the lungs and breathing tracts), and those irritants accumulate in the lungs of people who smoke. There is an abundance of phlegm in the breathing system of smokers which the body tries to get removed by coughing excessively.
