That is just the term for how much sugar is in the chocolate. It is the same as Dark Chocolate, but semi-sweet chocolate is mainly for cooking purposes and has about half the sugar that regular chocolate has. Bittersweet chocolate is more liquor than sugar and cocoa butter, because it only contains 1/3rd of the chocolate but they are interchangeable.

Chocolate is made from cocoa, which is not sweet on its own. Sugar must be added. Milk chocolate has the most sugar, semi-sweet and dark have less. Baker's has none.

No, all chocolate isn't sweet. It depends on the amount of sugar added. Baking chocolate is bitter because sugar is added in the recipe. Semi-sweet chocolate has more sugar than baking and less than 'milk' chocolate. There are a lot of chocolates out now with the percentage listed. Try some.

Semi-sweet chocolate is the same as dark chocolate. It is mostly used for baking. It is a healthier chocolate because of the low sugar content.
