Segmentation refers to dividing a computer's memory into segments. Memory segmentation just like 'Paging' is a way to achieve 'memory protection'. The main purpose of memory protection is to prevent an idle process from accessing memory that has not been allocated to it. In simpler words its a smarter way to mange memory so a system runs efficiently.
